Raising Our Voices

The Virginia Methodists for A New Thing movement values a diversity of voices. The blog posts shared here come from authors from around the Conference with a variety of viewpoints. They are lay and clergy; male, female, and non-binary; members of the LGBTQIA family; people of color and people who are white; cisgender and gender non-conforming. The authors featured here all share one thing in common: they hear the call of God to a new thing and are raising their voices to proclaim this good news.

Love Out Loud

When the Pride flags at Wesley at Virginia Tech were torn down and replaced with confederate flags, the first reaction was anger, sadness, and fear. But the students were determined to live out their mission to “Love Out Loud” and be an affirming and loving community that will not back down in the face of hatred and violence. Their witness has inspired the community.

The Transforming Power of Campus Ministry

As students head back to college, we’re taking a look at the impact campus ministries can have on their college experience. As one LGBTQ+ student shared, “The ministry has saved my life. It really gave me a safe space to challenge my social anxiety and to learn and to grow. It was great that I had a place I could go when I felt scared, lonely, or anxious, and I knew someone would be there. Wesley made me feel safe.”
